Australian Government has published a new intended SILLED OCCUPATION LIST (SOL) which is expected to replace the current SOL effective from July 2010. In this new SOL there are 181 skilled occupations for applications of GSM visa stream. No doubt this squeezing of several skilled occupations may effect migration prospects of many students intended to apply for migration after 2 years of education in Australia through Graduate Skilled Migration Scheme.
If you believe you are affected with this recent change you may consult your case officer for other options of visas available for students to apply for migration after studies.
NB: From July 2010 Skilled Occupation List ( SOL) shall be changed /amended after the end of each fiscal year in Australia and it will be the discretion of the concern authorities to change this list in accordance with the human resource requirements in Australia.
Other visa options for students who intended to apply for migration after 2 years of education.
This change of a occupation adversely affect those individuals who apply for migration under GSM Independent visa stream ie: Subclass 175 (offshore) / 885 (onshore) and whose occupation is not listed in the new SOL. However there are other migration visas available for students through which they could still able to apply for migration after 2 years of education ie: Subclass 887 (Onshore), and Subclass 487 (onshore) which are State Nomination visas. Our agency has a long standing in assisting professionals and students in assisting for State Nomination Visa which are referred as Regional Sponsored Migration (RSM) stream. Under this migration stream different Australia State / Territories publish their own occupation list and do not follow SOL. I am expecting that all those short comings in this new intended (SOL) shall be covered in the Regional Demand list applicable to RSM visas.
Australian Government wants students to apply through RSM visas if their occupation is not listed in the new SOL. Things are already in place for the formation of Sates Migration Plan for each state to meet the shortcomings in the new skilled occupation . It is likely that Regional Demand List under SMP should have several occupations which are not listed in the new SOL.
Special Note :
In the new SOL many trade occupations including hairdressers, cook, community welfare are off list at the moment . I have received several inquiries from students in Australia for opting for a community welfare course but they must understand that Community worker is not in the list. No doubt Social Worker is in the current SOL but you need bachelors degree to qualify its requirement.
What should student do now?
If you have not lodged your student visa application yet and your course is not in SOL you must contact your case officer at Auscanz to change the course or a provider if possible.
If your application is already lodged you can only request for a change of course under some circumstances but change of College / education provider is not possible as it will adversely affect your visa success at DIAC.
If you are our student studying in Australia you must continue your studies and wait until SMP comes in to effect as after that you could able to check your eligibility for RSM visas stream.
Our Recommendation
We highly recommend those students who could not able to change the course to follow the Regional demand list instead of SOL as many of the occupations which are not listed in the new intended SOL will be listed in the Regional Demand list in the month of July. Therefore this change will not affect you in the long run if you wish to apply for Migration.
Should you require any more information book you appointment with your case officer at Auscanz Int Group .
This advise is given in accordance with Migration Regulations 1994 and Migration Act 1958 keeping in view all necessary amendments applicable to migration visa subclasses.
Wish you all a successful journey to Australia as a student Good day !
