-On 17 July 2010, the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Julia Gillard MP, announced that a federal election would be conducted on 21 August 2010 and as such the Australian Government has assumed a caretaker role. (Source DIAC)

-Student Application Fees The cost to lodge a student application increased from AUD$540 to AUD$550 effective 1st July 2010. Health Insurance for International Students As of 1st July 2010, international students must obtain OSHC for the proposed duration of their Student visa.

-On 26 May 2010 the Migration Amendment (Visa Capping) Bill 2010 (the 'Bill') was introduced into the parliament. The legislation seeks to fine tune existing laws to provide the Government with a tool for the targeted management of all aspects of the migration program. The Bill is not currently operative and no actual cap is being considered at present. This Bill seeks only to give the Minister the power to implement a cap in future if necessary. (Source DIAC)

-On 22nd May our CEO Mr. Rana Babar Ali Khan participated at the lunching ceremony of Pakistan – Australia Business Forum at Avari Hotel Karachi on the invitation of Australian High Commissioner Mr. Tim George. Other Official including Honorary Consul and First Secretary –Political were also present at the lunching ceremony. The participants of forum pledge to boost bilateral trade ties of both the countries.

-New Indented SOL is now published with 181 skilled occupations. This intended list will form the new SOL which will be effective in mid of 2010. Many occupations including Hairdresser, Cook , Community welfare worker are off list but expected to be listed in the Regional Demand List after implementation of State Migration Plan (SMP)in mid of this year

-On 8 February 2010 Australian Minister immigration announced to cap and cease all pending GSM visas to maintain the maximum numbers of migrants in accordance with the human resource mix require in Australia . This decision will effect only to applications lodged before 1st September 2007. Under section 39 of Migration Act 1958 Minister have powers to limit number of applications received for particular class in the financial year

-Critical Shortage List ( CSL ) will be revoked as soon as new revised SOL take in to effect which expected to be revised in the MID of the 2010 and will be finalized in April 2010

-From 1 January 2010, onshore applicants applying for Australian permanent migration in a trade occupation will be required to demonstrate that they are ‘job ready' as part of their skills assessment. The Job Ready Program has been developed by the relevant assessing authority; this was previously referred to as the Job Ready Test. This new job ready requirement will affect applicants applying for Subclass 487, 885 and 886 visas (but does not affect subclass 485 and 887 visa applicants) Source: Immigration department

-Tighter English language requirements for GSM visas from 1 January 2010: For all General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa applicants who nominate a trade occupation will be increased to a minimum of 6.0 (Competent English) in each of the four components of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. For Skilled-Regional Sponsored GSM visa subclasses, the threshold English language standard will be raised from an average of 5.5 to an average of 6.0 in an IELTS test

-From 1 January 2010, international students who are affected by the closure of an education provider on or after 1 January 2010 may be exempt from paying the visa application charge for a further Student visa application

-Canada is adjusting its 2010 immigration plan to put even greater emphasis on economic recovery and further reduce the federal skilled worker backlog, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney told a news conference today (Toronto, June 26, 2010)
